About Michaela

I think it’s so nice to know a bit about who is behind the artworks, their values, passions, and interests.

So, I am Michaela. I was born in the UK, but I have spent the majority of my adult life overseas. After finishing uni, where I studied Environmental science, I spent years in South East Asia and India, where I studied Yoga and volunteered with many animal charities. I taught yoga for some years, and it is still a big part of my life.

Finally I settled in Australia for 8 years, where I at last listened to the burning voice within me, which was telling me to create. I believe there are spirits in nature, in the trees, rivers, and flowers. The spirits in Australia feel very active, and as I spent so much time outside, they began to inspire me deeply.

I lived on a property with hundreds of fruit trees, and I used to sit below them and get visions of fruit goddesses appearing from each tree. I slowly started to draw, but I didn’t like anything I was creating. I knew I could do it, but I couldn’t get the expressions onto paper. Finally, I took a course in oil painting and academic drawing, which helped me immensely to create work I was much more proud of.

Animals are so important to me; I see them as deeply healing beings. No ego, more intuition, their first language is energy and love and it’s pure, unwavering, and honest. Painting animals makes me so happy, I think it’s beautiful that we honour our pets with paintings that we can keep forever, even after they are gone.

Life can be so harsh, so I aim to make art that is soft and gentle, that when you look at it, it soothes something within you.

I have a romantic passionate heart, everything is art. Beautiful and fleeting. Heartwarming and heartbreaking. Nature helps me to stay grounded, calm, and inspired.

I have a deep thirst for self development and spiritual concepts, which help me navigate life but also inspire my work.

Thank you for being here! x
